The Final Survey week is here!!!
The final survey week is upon us. From Sunday April 26th to Saturday May 2nd, our seating sweeps survey will be conducted at the bottom of every hour (11:30, 12:30 etc.). The survey is important because the results could impact the future direction of the Learning Commons and the Library. Your help is crucial to completing this successfully and we promise its the final survey effort for the year.Monday, April 20, 2009

What to do when we are closing:
When the Library is closing:.
1) Close Meebo, and the circulation software. Log off both LC desk computers.

2) The parking stamps must be put in the drawer and locked..
.
.
3) The supply cabinet and the drawers that contain the headphones must be locked as well..
.
.
4) The stat sheet, rove sheet and que survey sheet should all be put in the 'Statistics' bin to the left of where the red binder is kept..
.
5) You should leave.
.
.
If you have any questions, or need to learn where the keys are kept, just ask a supervisor.

New Service in the LC: Poster Printing
Starting Monday April 6th, the Learning Commons will be offering a new poster printer service. This is a pilot program for the Spring 2009 semester. LC Desk supervisors will be handling most of the duties for this operation..

Printing a poster requires an appointment. Appointments are only made by email at posters@library.umass.edu

Library will close at 5 p.m. on April 4th
On Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., the Friends of the UMass Amherst Libraries will host the seventh annual "Dinner with Friends" in the Learning Commons at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library on the UMass Amherst campus. It is a major fundraiser for the library. .
The Library will close at 5 p.m. on that day to prepare for the event and any student scheduled to work that evening will not have to work. The Library will resume normal hours of operation on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
Upcoming Event: Verizon Grant Celebration
All staff are invited to celebrate the generosity of the Verizon Foundation and its support of the digitization of the W.E.B. Du Bois Papers..
This program will be on Friday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in the Learning Commons. UMass President Jack Wilson, UMass Amherst Chancellor Robert Holub, and Donna Cupelo, Region President for New England Verizon, will be attending. Former Chancellor Randolph Bromery will talk about bringing the papers to campus and MaryNell Morgan will sing selected "sorrow songs," Negro spirituals that Du Bois included between the chapters of his best known book: "The Souls of Black Folk," published in 1903.

While the temporary disruption in available workspace may pose an inconvenience to some, gently remind students who voice their concerns that there is wireless throughout the library now and that this is a major event for the University.
