USE OF LC DESK COMPUTERS

For those who don't know, only supervisors and systems people may make changes to the two LC computers at the desk. When using them to type personal documents, please save these to your own storage device and delete them from the desktop once you are done.

Thanks!

STATISTICS!

So boring yet so important too. Those crude hash marks actually become meaningful once we put them in a spreadsheet as numbers and crunch them!

So, please be diligent about recording them; do the best to categorize them. If you need a review of the categories you'll find an explanation of what question falls under which category in our "What Should I be Doing While On My Shift" document.

Please pay attention to a.m. and p.m. on the sheets. During the semester, stat sheets are started at midnight.

Thanks.

Just a reminder....

When changing the printer ink cartridges, be sure to mark "USED" on the box so that we know to give it back to Casey the Ikon guy (he's the one who brings the printer/copier supplies for the library computers and copiers).

Thanks!

LIBRARY PRINTERS

Currently (Sept. 4 & 5)...we've been experiencing crippling printer problems related, we think, to .pdf documents (apparently from ereserves and/or SPARK).

Until this issue gets resolved, please steer students over to the OIT computers. If they need to print more than 50 pages, they will need to break the document down into pages of less than 50.

Library Systems staff has been working hard to try to get this solved.

LC DESK COMPUTERS AND SOUND!

Please do not mute the sound on the LC Desk computers...we need the sound on in order to hear Instant Messaging.

The newest LC page (coming soon) http://www.umass.edu/learningcommons/ will have a chat box embedded in the actual page, allowing users to IM us more easily. This will mean more IMs and we need to answer them in a timely fashion. If the sound is too loud, simply turn it down to a level where you can still hear the beep.

If you have any questions, ask your supervisor.

EXCITING ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITY!

Ever notice how the users of this library go through enormous amounts of scrap paper and golf pencils? We need students who enjoy chopping paper! It's a very therapeutic task. You have a choice of two state-of-the-art paper choppers. Just take recycled paper (or new if you can't find enough used paper) and chop into four pieces. We're not even asking for perfect sizes! So, please help out with the chopping, you'll be glad you did! Lately the little paper holders have been empty... Talk to your supervisor about where you can find the chopping equipment...

EARBUDS!

We now have earbuds to hand out to students. Please only give them to students using the OIT computers (the library computers have headsets; if not, let your supervisor know).

Students may have these earbuds for free. We will not be advertising this. These are just for if someone comes to the desk and asks.
