NEW SCANNER!!!

Library Systems installed an awesome scanner today. It's got some really great features like OCR (you can scan a document and then edit it in Word) as well as being specially designed to copy books. Please demonstrate to patrons how to put the book on scanner so as to not damage the scanner.

I left instructions on how to use the scanner at the desk.

Why do we rove?

In the “What should I be doing while I am on my shift?” document that each LC employee reads as part of their training, the following list of things to do while roving in the LC is given:
  • Pick up trash
  • Push in and arrange chairs
  • Log off computers not in use
  • Wipe down desks/clean whiteboards
  • Guide users to available computers if a line forms
  • Enforce policies (such as 15 minute policy rule for unattended stations; record on check sheet if there are any unattended items in a room or at a workstation. The next check will note if they are still there after 15 minutes)

I’d like to add two other things we should all be doing while roving:

  • Keep an eye out for any missing or broken equipment. If you notice anything that looks out of the ordinary, report it to a supervisor right away. This means walking around and briefly checking on every workstation in the LC, even those that are out of your immediate line of sight.
  • Also, keep an eye out for people who might be trying to make eye contact with you because they have a question.

Thanks! If you have any questions, please ask a supervisor or me.

A MESSAGE FROM BOB THE IKON MAN (THE COPY GUY)

If you see an out of order sign on a machine and it says that the problem has been called in, do NOT try to fix it. Bob is adamant about this. He says that some of these jams are very complicated (like a rubics cube) and that it can make things worse to keep trying to unjam it.

To repeat:
Please continue to unjam machines if they aren't already posted with an out of order sign but if there's already one with a sign, leave the sign there and let IKON take care of it.
