We are coming to the end of the road....

As we approach the end of the semester, there will be important information emailed to you very shortly concerning work schedules. This will include work opportunities and requirements for the end of the semester, intersession and Spring semester. Stay tuned for more info....

Wireless Update:

Laptop users may have noticed some funkiness with the wireless network as of late.
.
If a patron is working on any type of project for which uninterrupted access to the network is crucial (like an online exam), the LC strongly encourages them to plug in rather than relying on wireless. (This is always a good idea in general, but is a brilliant idea right now in particular.)
.
Most OIT workstation areas in the LC have red Ethernet cords which you can use to plug your machine in to the campus network. They can also bring their own cord or purchase one from the office supply vending machine in the LC (sorry, we don’t have any to lend out).
.
In the meantime, if they experience problems with the campus wireless network, encourage them to submit a trouble ticket to the OIT Help Desk. Hopefully, feedback will get results.

Just a reminder

A UCard is needed to circulate materials. No exceptions. Not even for a celebrity.

Quick Print station can now read Open Office Documents...

The Quick Print Station can now open Open Office Documents with an 'odt' suffix (i.e. document.odt)
.
The free media converter 'Media-Convert.com' works (often not always) to change format from Open Office to Word.
.
Students should always be reminded to save their original document in Word format in order to avoid some minor difficulty.

wireless coverage has expanded.

Wireless coverage in the Library now extends from the LC through the art stacks on the ninth floor. Floors 13 and 24 also have coverage. More coming soon.

You all have to work on Thanksgiving....

Just kidding. The regular work schedule will remain in effect until Wednesday, November 26th at 5 p.m. and resume again at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 30th.
.
Those of you who have a shift scheduled on Wednesday that starts prior to 1 p.m. or a shift on Sunday are expected to work or find substitute coverage.
.
The Library will close on Wednesday, November 26th at 5pm and will be closed all day Thursday, November 27th. The Library will remain open on Friday, November 28th (8am-5pm) and Saturday, November 29th (9am-5pm).
.
If you are normally scheduled to work on Friday or Saturday during those times, you have the option to work your shift - or not. However, if you would like to work your shift as usual, you will need to let Peter know no later than Monday, November17th. After that, the shifts will be posted and available to anyone who would like to pick them up on a first come, first served basis.
.
If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Peter.

A Squirrely Problem

Throughout the course of the year, squirrels and chipmunks always find a way to get stuck in the courtyard. If this happens, the LC desk will notify the Building Monitor. They will make arrangements to have a humane trap set and the creature returned to more hospitable environs. Please reassure any patron who expresses concern with this information.
