SEATING SWEEPS ARE HERE!!!

It’s that time of year again! Our seating sweeps survey will begin this Sunday (4/27) and will be done at the bottom of every hour (:30) until the following Saturday (5/3).

The purpose of the survey is to accurately count the number of patrons utilizing the resources of the Learning Commons. These numbers will be used as a gauge to help determine the future course of the LC.

The supervisors will primarily be responsible for completing the survey, but your assistance may undoubtedly be required.

3rd Floor Reserves now open 24/5!!!

Reserves, Media & Microforms (RMM) on the 3rd Floor is now open 24/5 - all the hours the W.E.B. Du Bois Library is open.

Library users can now check out about 50 tablet PCs/laptops for 4 hours for use in the building from the the Reserve Desk on 3rd Floor. Laptops may be renewed when brought back to RMM if there are other laptops available for loan. On Friday and Saturday nights when the building closes at 9 p.m., all laptops must be returned to RMM at closing. The Learning Commons desk no longer accepts laptops for safekeeping.

In addition to the extended hours of availability of laptops, course reserves, media, and microforms will all be available 24/5 on the 3rd Floor. Library users will be able to watch videos or DVDs that are on reserve for their class, page a microform, or ask a question at your convenience. Loan periods for reserve and media materials remain unchanged

New Policy in Effect Regarding Parking

There is a new University parking policy in effect which has resulted in an increase presence of enforcement. Please encourage everyone to park in the garage. Not only do we validate the first hour, but there is a $3 flat rate after 5pm. Both offerings are certainly more economical than a ticket.

Starting Monday:

On Monday morning, the LC Desk will begin circulating headphones, USB floppy drives, and graphing calculators. They will be located in the drawer beneath the supply cabinet. Circulation is for 2 hours. Library staff are the only ones who can circulate the material, and there are no substitutes for the UCard. Any questions, just ask a supervisor!!

FIRE WATCH!!!!

In the event of a fire drill, the main priority is for you to evacuate the building. Most patrons will be trying to exit the building via the stairs. You should calmly head out the side entrance leading towards the campus pond and meet other LC staff near the minuteman statue. Be sure to check in with a supervisor if you can and stay by the statue. (No trips to the Bluewall) When leaving, it would be helpful if you could try to lead others out with you. However, your first priority is to exit the building and stay by the statue.

Welcome Paul!

On April 7th, Paul Sherry joins our full-time staff as the new 3rd shift LC Desk Supervisor. He will be working various day and early evening shifts the first week. Transitioning to the LC from University Heath Services, Paul brings a wealth of customer service experience and technical skills with him. Welcome Paul!

Spring Cleaning!

Many thanks to all student workers for helping keep this place clean. Your efforts when roving have helped keep this busy hub looking great.

Many questions have been received about cleaning computers. Everyone is expected to clean computers on their shifts regardless if it is morning, afternoon or evening. If it is too busy to clean computers, the focus could shift to the printer and scanner terminals, or the display cases.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts at making the Learning Commons the true heart of campus!
